Carole Middleton arrives at Ascot Day 3 and rubs shoulders with royals

Royal Ascot Day 3 (Thursday) brought out the main royals: King Charles, Queen Camilla, the Duke and Duchess of Edinburgh (Edward and Sophie), Princess Anne, Zara Tindall and… Carole Middleton. Truly, Carol is the next best thing to the Queen Mother – she is the mother of the future Queen Consort and grandmother of the future King. Also, the Queen Mother was always gin-picked. Interestingly, Carole heard all of our comments about her missing husband, so Michael Middleton was dutifully taken out for the third day. He was barely photographed, almost as if he came out only for a show and then quickly left. I think it’s interesting that Carroll was welcomed for two consecutive days – Her daughter wasn’t there, and yet Carole was walking side by side with Sophie Hu and Zara in the Royal Box. I have to hand it to him, Carroll made himself a great deal in 2024.

I haven’t had a chance to talk about Duchess Sophie at Ascot before because there was so much going on, but Sophie bizarrely wore two very dark, fun looks at Ascot. While the cut and length of these dresses followed Ascot’s dress code, she broke the unwritten rule of Ascot style: “Don’t look like a goth witch.” Her black dress from day two and her navy dress from day three were both from Susanna London. Overall both are pretty terrible costumes. Sophie gets it wrong 90% of the time.

Meanwhile, Zara Tindall and Mike Tindall were invited to join the carriage procession for the first time on the third day. The Tindals have been there every day, so I guess it was a special treat. Zara wore a puff-sleeved Rebecca Vallance bridesmaid dress for some reason.

Another fashion note – Camila wore a custom Fiona Claire with a Dior purse. she also wore Diamond earrings (possibly from the Royal Collection), a Cartier bracelet and a Courtauld Thomson scallop-shell brooch. Also: Andrew Parker Bowles was there, too.
