Princess Kate ‘is the closest thing we have to a Rockstar member these days’

I love this royal pattern. We have seen a lot of this in recent years. Step #1: The Windsors do something extremely unpopular, or they are teased or harassed and suddenly they become out of touch. Step #2: Everyone is reminded how the survivors are a bunch of lazy flops and that becomes the story. Step #3: After a few days, the royal propaganda machine begins to re-imagine the “unpopular Windsor” incident and tries to force a royal counterclaim that while your eyes may have deceived you, the Windsors are perfect in every way. It’s the same with this year’s Trooping the Colour. Before the trooping, royal journalists were so bored that they wrote stories wondering if Prince Harry would come. Then came the trooping and republican protesters heckled and jostled with members of the royal family, which was more noticeable Due to less crowd. Camera footage found The Princess of Wales was looking at the protesters with sharp eyesHis mask came off completely. Well, forget all that. Royal commentators insist that Kate is a rock star and that Charles was delighted by the image she presented of the modern monarchy and its yellow-and-stale balcony.

So far, they are professionals. Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8, who have been appearing at Trooping the Color since childhood, looked completely at ease on the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Throughout the morning of 13 June, he waved to cheering crowds, watched the RAF flypast above and chatted to his parents while thousands of people packed the Mall below.

George – who looked every bit like the future king – was seen pointing a military plane towards Prince William, 43. He later managed to hold back a sneeze until the final notes of “God Save the King”, holding it together after sharing a laugh with Kate Middleton, 44. Meanwhile, Charlotte looked poised as ever, while Lewis looked determined to enjoy every moment of the event.

“Like any other 8-year-old, he was just enjoying the spectacle,” says former palace courtesan Ailsa Anderson. “You can see the close bond between the three siblings.”

This attendance was limited to the day of the military pageant celebrating the Emperor’s official birthday. And King Charles, 77, had every reason to feel encouraged as he surveyed the crowd. Still undergoing treatment for cancer, the king has spent much of the past two years dealing with health challenges, family rifts and renewed scrutiny of the monarchy. But this year’s parade was one of the most positive moments of his reign.

A week earlier, Charles was joined by his extended family at the wedding of his nephew Peter Phillips, following the king’s successful visit to the US with Queen Camilla, 78, in April, which also included a well-received address to Congress. With Princess Kate’s continued return to public life after announcing her remission from cancer in early 2025 and a widely acclaimed trip to Italy in May, the family is riding a wave of momentum unlike any since Charles became king.

Much of that optimism is focused on the Princess of Wales. “These days, Kate is the closest thing we have to a rockstar out of any member, and everyone wants to see her,” says Royals author Catherine Mayer.

And while royals gathered in London, Prince Harry, 41, was thousands of miles away in Texas to attend Game 5 of the NBA Finals — a reminder of how far he has moved away from the royal duties and traditions that once defined his life. His potential return to Britain for the Invictus Games event in July will again put his relationship with his family in the spotlight.

Yet the lasting image of that day was not one of absence. As Charles stood alongside his heir and his three grandchildren, the future of the monarchy was on display for all to see – a powerful picture of continuity at a moment when the institution has regained its footing.

Anderson says, “It felt like a family affair; the King must have found complete joy and pleasure in it.” “They’re off to a strong start to the summer.”

“These days, Kate is the closest thing to a rockstar member” This stuff is pretty funny when you really think about it. Because it’s actually true – Kate is the “rockstar” of this colorful crew. But that’s not a strong endorsement of his star power, is it? “Oh, they’re more excited to see Kate than Camilla or Prince Edward!” well yes. It’s the only way Kate can look popular. And I also think Charles looked very handsome in this, even while trooping – rather than basking in the affection of a nation, he Tried to get out of that cracked balcony Before he was about to do it.
