This week, British media announced that Prince Harry, Meghan and their two children are planning to move to the UK next month. Most of the travel is about Invictus One Year To Go events in Birmingham, but people are clearly hoping that King Charles will at least spend a little time with his grandchildren. Throughout the discussion, questions have been raised about safety and whether Harry would bring Meghan and the children to the UK if he is not completely sure they can be safe. RAVEC and the Home Office have still not made any decision on whether the Sussexes will get “automatic” protection whenever they are in the UK. But The Sun has just reported something interesting – Harry has apparently received assurances from his father that the Sussex family will be protected, and Charles will cover any additional costs.
Harry and Meghan will move to the UK with their children after King Charles offered to help arrange their security, it has been claimed. The Home Office has still provided around-the-clock armed police protection, funded by taxpayers, for his visit next month.
The level of threat posed to the pair is under review and no changes have been made to security arrangements. But the king is believed to have stepped in to offer his own resources so the couple can bring their two children, seven-year-old Archie and five-year-old Lilibet, on their first visit in four years.
Harry, who stepped back from royal duties when he moved to California, lost a legal case against the Home Office last year after it reduced his security. He later said that it was not safe to bring his family to Britain. But this week a “safe return” to the five-day trip was said to be possible following “changes” in security arrangements.
However, sources said the government’s Royal and VIP Executive Committee has not upgraded its threat level. A government spokesperson said of its protective security systems: “It is our long-term policy not to provide detailed information on those systems, as doing so could compromise their integrity and affect the safety of individuals.”
Buckingham Palace and the Sussexes, who will be attending Harry’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, declined to comment.

First thing: this is all about saving face for RAVEC and the Home Office, not to mention Buckingham Palace. Like I said, Harry has them on their nerves, and they’re afraid of what Harry might do or say if they completely disregarded his family’s safety needs. This arrangement seems entirely typical – meaning “half-baked” – of the British system of saving face at an institutional level while still providing security. Secondly: This arrangement, with the sovereign basically stepping in and picking up any additional security costs, is exactly what Queen Elizabeth did for the Sussexes when they visited twice in 2022. Harry made the same argument in his lawsuits, and that has been his position since 2022 – that his father could easily intervene, like QEII, to ensure the safety of the Sussex family. Charles never “intervened” in the first place because he’s a rotten old man who wanted to keep the Sussexes away and/or put them in as much danger as possible.
