German football fan @FreddyLA7 was one of the feel-good stories from the early stages of WC when he went viral for documenting his travels across the American South. As with most funny viral stories, however, the narrative seems to be turning.

When the viral fame started, @FreddyLA7 shared photos and videos of his stops across the South, from iconic fast food chains to scenic vistas. His posts hit the mainstream, resulting in celebrities, brands and government entities getting involved, such as sports teams, airlines, NASA, future NFL Hall of Famer JJ Watt and country star Ella Langley.

White House Invitation Turns Sports World On Viral World Cup Fan @FreddyLA7

While the corporatization of Freddy’s trip was already enough to sour emotions, reports of a planned visit to the White House have completely spoiled the fun, prompting some to label the viral sensation a “psyop.”

“Nick Adams, the former conservative media gadfly whose title in the Trump administration is Special Presidential Envoy for American, Tourism, Exceptionalism, and Values, told Front Office Sports in an interview Thursday that he has been in contact with Freddy and is in talks to host the mega-viral World Cup fan at both the White House and the State Department before the tournament ends.”

“‘I saw all his posts, and then I took it upon myself to reach out. I said, ‘Hey, Freddy, I’m the tourist guy in America. I love what you say and what you do … Do you want to come to Washington? I’d love to take you on a tour of the State Department and the White House,'” Adams said.

Once US authorities got involved, the narrative that this whole @freddyLA7 viral moment was orchestrated started to take off on social media.

“Something is wrong with this Freddy profile/dide. Appeared suddenly out of nowhere, pressured by the X algorithm from the start, never shows his true face, is singled out by the IS government (NASA? Cmon) and celebrities. It’s definitely a psyop,” a tweet read.

“I’ve been over it since they talked to the space station and the Langley gifts blew my top off. The Freddy psyop is propaganda,” one second added.

“Real most blatant psyop ever,” a third agreed.

“Yeah, I told you it was a psyop.”

“That guy pushed onto my timeline was an op? I don’t believe it.”

“The most obvious government factory ever?”

Germany have won their first two group stage matches WC and has secured a place in the knockout phase. Their third and final group stage match comes against Ecuador on Thursday, June 25 at 16 EST.
