Famous French singer Gueche Paty, who was born Patricia Porasse, has passed away. The singer, aged 80, died in Paris early Monday after battling ill health.

His representative, Sébastien D’Asigny, announced the heartbreaking news. “Guache Patty, dancer, singer, actress, left us in Paris on the night of June 21-22, 2026, after a long illness. The acclaimed artist achieved worldwide recognition with his 1987 smash Etienne, which sold nearly a half million copies globally.

The daring music video, featuring the artist performing a striptease under a fishnet bodysuit with only two tape strips hiding her nipples, caused quite a stir upon release and the single became a phenomenal success throughout France and several European countries.

Despite maintaining considerable popularity and describing herself as a “chameleon” who preferred to “work quietly with all the arts”, she never managed to repeat that track’s extraordinary commercial triumph.

Reportedly, during an AFP interview while attending a contemporary dance presentation in Paris in 2001, she revealed that the song dominated her professional life, despite earning the accolade of Victoire de la Musique. express.

She said, “I don’t want to relive what I experienced with Etienne. I want to protect myself from media publicity. I’ve stopped playing games.” She expressed similar sentiments during an interview with France 3 in 2002 and described the fame brought to her by Étienne as a “burden”.

“I think there was a kind of pressure on me that didn’t fit my character at all,” he said, admitting that he was saddened that the music industry might treat him “as a product.”

Nevertheless, he continued his musical career and produced albums including Nomades, Gobe, Blonde and Dernières Nouvelles. He also ventured into acting in theater and film, playing a memorable role in Claude Lelouch’s 1999 film ‘Une pour touts’.
