Jets from New York quarterback Geno Smith is facing assault charges after a woman accused him of assaulting her during a heated dispute last weekend. According to several reports, law enforcement officials have confirmed that the case is currently under investigation following claims on social media from a woman identified as Kristen. The allegations quickly gained attention online after Kristen shared a series of posts and videos detailing the incident.
In one post on social mediaKristen made a number of accusations against the NFL quarterback, writing, “Today is the DAY! GENO SMITH beat me up because he hates taking care of his special needs child and can’t be left alone with him because he would rather watch sex online and play ‘Call of Duty.’
The post was accompanied by video footage that appeared to show an argument between the pair. In one clip, Smith can be heard speaking on the phone to an unidentified person and saying, “She just called the police.”
“Geno just beat my shaft, that’s why,” Kristen replied. “You ran out and attacked me, b-tch.” The argument continued when the woman later ran into the driveway screaming for help.
During the confrontation, she also accused Smith of damaging her belongings and taking money from her car.
Additional video appears to show physical altercation
Another video shared online appeared to show Smith sitting in a vehicle as a physical struggle unfolded nearby.
At this time, no criminal charges have been announced and authorities have not publicly commented on the details of the investigation other than confirming that the allegations are being investigated.
Smith has not publicly made the allegations.
The child’s mother pushes back on parentage claims
One aspect of Kristen’s accusations focused on claims regarding Smith’s role as a father. However, the mother of Smith’s son publicly rejected suggestions that the quarterback was unable to care for their child. Smith welcomed his son Seven in 2019.
In response to the online controversy, the child’s mother wrote: “Geno is and has always been more than capable of caring for his son. Let’s kill that narrative. Don’t go on the internet and drag my son into your web of dysfunction.”
Smith’s NFL journey hasn’t been easy
Smith is no stranger to adversity on and off the football field. The quarterback was originally selected by the New York Jets in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft after a standout collegiate career with the West Virginia Mountaineers. After four seasons with the Jets, he spent time with the New York Giants and Los Angeles Chargers before reviving his career with the Seattle Seahawks.
Smith enjoyed a career renaissance in Seattle, earning 2022 NFL Comeback Player of the Year honors after throwing for 4,282 yards, 30 touchdowns and 11 interceptions while leading the Seahawks to the playoffs. He followed that up with another Pro Bowl season, eventually setting franchise records for passing yards, completions and completion percentage.
Over the course of his NFL career, Smith has played in more than 100 games and amassed more than 22,000 passing yards and 120 touchdown passes. He was named to the Pro Bowl twice and has become one of the league’s most notable comeback stories after spending years as a backup before re-establishing himself as a starting quarterback.
Geno Smith recently returned to the New York Jets
The latest allegations come during a busy offseason for Smith. The veteran quarterback was traded to the New York Jets earlier this year after spending the previous season with the Las Vegas Raiders. Despite the move, reports indicate that the Raiders remain responsible for paying a significant portion of Smith’s 2026 salary.
“Honestly, I don’t think anyone could have imagined that.” Smith shared with reporters after the news was announced. “But the beauty of life itself is that I’m constantly making plans, and they rarely turn out exactly as I planned them.”
The veteran signal caller is expected to enter the 2026 season as New York’s starting quarterback under new head coach Aaron Glenn.
Because the investigation is still under review, neither the Jets nor Smith have publicly commented on the situation.
