On Thursday, SpaceX priced its IPO at $135 per share, implying a market cap of $1.8 trillion for the company. This would significantly increase Elon Musk’s net worth, making the richest man in the world even richer.
According to calculations carried out by ForbesSpaceX’s record-breaking IPO price increased Musk’s net worth by $188 billion. This would make his total net worth an estimated $982 billion. If SpaceX’s stock price rises to $138.50 per share at the start of trading Friday, and Tesla’s stock price remains unchanged, Musk will become the first trillionaire in world history.
There are actually several ways Musk could become a trillionaire by the end of the week. If Tesla’s stock price rises from $399 to $424 per share, and SpaceX’s stock price remains at $135, he would also become a trillionaire. However, the chance of this is smaller because SpaceX’s IPO is heavily oversubscribed.
What is Musk’s role in SpaceX?
Musk is currently Chairman, CEO and Chief Technical Officer of SpaceX. He currently owns 4.8 billion shares, which Forbes estimates are worth $644 billion. The publication reports that he also has an additional 350 million stock options with an exercise price of $8.40 per share, which are worth $44 billion. This gives him a 38% stake in the company, valued at approximately $688 billion at the IPO price.
Musk also owns just over 10% of Tesla, which has a market cap of $1.5 trillion, worth about $165 billion. He also has the option to acquire an additional 8% stake, worth approximately $114 billion. But that’s not all. He also has stakes in the startup Neuralink and his firm Boring Company, which also increases his wealth.
Elon Musk left DOGE in 2025
