The Royal Family is reportedly less popular with the younger generation than it used to be.
The British monarchy has lost a significant number of its younger supporters due to headline-grabbing controversies, according to new reports.
The list includes Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, who fell from grace due to his controversial relationship with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. Prince Harry’s continued estrangement from his family has also contributed to the decline in the royal family’s popularity.

The decline in the popularity of the monarchy was evident after a poll conducted by Ipsos, a polling company. They launched a survey in March 2026 using an online random probability panel of 1,062 adults to assess public sentiment towards the British Royal Family.
The results showed that younger people in Britain no longer supported the monarchy as they used to, with their scathing support seemingly stemming from recent controversies within the royal family. Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William, have reportedly not spoken since Queen Elizabeth’s funeral in 2022.
Additionally, Andrew’s Epstein controversy and his arrest in February may have contributed to the lack of support. The Daily Mail reported that 27% of Ipsos respondents said they would rather live in a republic than a monarchy.
How the popularity of the British monarchy has declined over the years

The new polls are reportedly the lowest scores the monarchy has achieved in the 33 years Ipsos has been polling the royal family. In 1993, the monarchy received an approval rating of 69 percent, which shot up to 80 percent in 2012 during Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee.
The approval rating dropped to 60 percent in 2022 after the Queen’s death. In the years that followed, Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle moved to California amid their estrangement from the royal family, amid rumors of bad blood and a broken brotherly bond.
The younger population appears to believe the monarchy is no longer necessary, with Gideon Skinner, the senior director of UK Political Research at Ipsos, warning the royal family to pay attention to its declining favor. In Skinner’s words:
“To reverse this trend, it will be necessary to convince young people in particular that the monarchy still has an important, relevant role to play in the future of the country.”
King Charles remains fan favorite amid estrangement with his son

Despite the decline in approval ratings for the monarchy, King Charles and Prince William remain fan favorites. Six in 10 thought Charles was doing a great job as king, while 71 percent echoed similar sentiments about Prince William.
The duo’s high approval ratings were revealed days later The explosion reported claims that the monarch was interested in reconciliation. Royal commentator Phil Dampier believed Charles was open to mending bridges with Harry and would enjoy spending time with his grandchildren.
Dampier suspected that the king would be happy to arrange a meeting with Harry and his children if the family chose to travel to Britain in July. However, the royal commentator theorized that Charles would prefer a private meeting to a public gathering.
The Sussexes were branded ‘desperate’ over their return to Britain

Harry, Meghan and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, are expected to return to Britain in July. The explosion shared that their speculated return would mark the family’s first visit in four years since the Sussexes moved to America.
Mark Dolan responded by criticizing the news, calling the family’s return to Britain a “desperate” money-making scheme. Dolan argued that Harry and Meghan were only visiting as a family because their brand was failing in the US.
“We know Harry’s speaking engagements have dried up. He used to get $1 million per speech, and now it’s $50,000. The As Ever brand is struggling,” Dolan claimed. He claimed they were probably hoping to boost their brand by returning to Britain, rather than seeking reconciliation.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly considering downsizing their home

Speculation about the Sussexes’ alleged financial problems continued, with claims for a new home. The explosion reported that royal commentator and columnist Maureen Callahan revealed that there were rumors that Harry and Meghan were in a bad position.
Financial concerns are said to have plagued the couple so much that they considered downsizing from their sprawling Montecito estate to a more affordable home. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly found it difficult to cope with the costs of their current home.
According to Callahan, the controversial couple struggled to generate income because they could no longer monetize their relationship with the royal family. “The supply of information is choked,” the royal commentator added.
