
Carlos Mencia has been arrested and charged with very serious offences.
The 58-year-old comedian was charged with 12 counts of state tax evasion on Thursday (June 18), according to the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office. Nathan J Hochman confirmed, via DeWrap.

“Mr. Mencia has an income that most people can only dream of, and like everyone else, he is required to file his personal and corporate tax returns and pay his fair share,” the district attorney said in a statement. “Failure to report millions of dollars in income is a slap in the face to hardworking Californians who diligently file and pay their taxes every year because they care about their community and the public goods, like police, fire, roads and utilities, that their tax dollars provide. Today we are sending a message to tax criminals that it is no longer business as usual in Los Angeles County – the days of a free pass for failing to file returns and pay taxes are over.”
CarlosThe charges include “six felonies of failing to file personal income taxes with the intent to evade taxes and six felonies of failing to file corporate taxes with the intent to evade taxes.”
The comedian is also reportedly “on the California Franchise Tax Board’s list of the 500 largest tax delinquents in both the personal and business income categories,” and the board has reportedly sent him 78 notices notifying him of the unfiled returns.
The report claims that Carlos failed to report approximately $3.3 million in personal income, plus $5.4 million in income for his company, Nedlos Entertainment, Inc., of which he is the CEO and owner.
The DA’s office says he also owes “more than $300,000 in taxes to the state of California: approximately $267,594 in personal taxes and approximately $35,117 in corporate taxes.”
Carlos is reportedly still in custody following his arrest on Thursday (June 18), with bail set at $250,000. His arraignment is scheduled for Monday (June 22).
If convicted, he faces 11 years and four months in prison.
