Eden: For Prince William, the Sussexes are ‘a topic not even discussed anymore’

Prince William appears to have gone through five stages of grief over the past two weeks, and he expressed it loudly through press conferences. Denial: Maybe Prince Harry and Meghan won’t go to Britain, maybe they won’t visit King Charles, maybe they won’t bring the kids. Anger: This is William’s wheelhouse, where he stays the whole time, so we know he was angry. Bargain: If the Sussexes stay in Sandringham, William will never go there again! He’ll just run away, far away, then they’ll be sorry! Depression: This is also William’s wheelhouse, and he’s doing everything he can to survive. Acceptance: Well, the Sussexes are traveling, they better come up with some dangerously unflattering plans to ruin their trip. Well, Richard Eden’s latest Mail Plus column is ostensibly about the Sussexes’ UK visit, but it’s really about William and how badly he’s handling the news. Eden is always talking about “Project Thaw”, which is his favorite name for this conspiracy: “The British establishment would do anything to bring back the Sussexes because William and Kate are lazy and boring.” I’m explaining, but only barely. Some highlights from Eden’s column:

Success of Project Thaw: When the couple arrive in Britain in less than a fortnight with their children, Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, it may look like Project Thaw has been a success. After all, this will be the first time Meghan has stayed here since Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral in September 2022 and even longer since her children were here for the late monarch’s platinum jubilee celebrations in June that year.

Security in UK: Harry and Meghan needed the help of government and establishment figures in the palace because they lost their automatic right to taxpayer-funded security after moving abroad. This enraged Harry, who took legal action against the Home Office, which he lost…however, he is apparently satisfied with the security arrangements for next month’s visit.

Won’t even discuss William Sussex!! But while all these developments may indicate the success of Project Thaw, there are two important ways in which it has failed to achieve its goals. First of all, while the king will, no doubt, want to see his grandchildren (in Lily’s case, for only the second time in her life), I hear there has been no change in the icy relationship between Harry and his brother, Prince William. A friend of William and Catherine told me, ‘It’s a topic that isn’t even discussed anymore.’ ‘He made it clear some time ago that he wanted nothing to do with his brother, and as far as I know, there has been no change in that.’ The friend added: ‘I doubt anyone knows what his thoughts are about his father after seeing Harry and Meghan, because he doesn’t talk about it.’ Like the king’s dealings with his disgraced brother, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, William is happy to leave the ‘Harry problem’ to his father.

British people still hate the Sussexes! The second way in which Project Thaw has failed, at least so far, is in its aim to ‘warm’ the Sussexes’ relations with the British people. I don’t see any more excitement for this pairing than last October. And it’s no surprise when they failed to apologize to the rest of the royal family for their insult. When I revealed the existence of Project Thaw in October, a friend of the Sussexes told me: ‘Meghan will return to the UK before the year is out.’ The friend joked that she would ‘endure humble pie’.

I’ve said this before about the “Project Thaw” nonsense, but it’s worth noting again: If high-level establishment figures and government figures are trying to bring the Sussexes back, why aren’t William and Kate accepting it? As apolitical royals, they should just do what they’re told, right? If the government and establishment want the Sussexes to receive a royal welcome, then Wales needs to be subservient to the will of the UK deep state, right?

related to “This is a topic that is not even discussed anymore.” – Lmao. Rota’s WhatsApp begs to differ, as do all the journalists who have received a barrage of calls and emails from Kensington Palace over the past week. In fact, I doubt William has been able to keep his mouth shut about Harry and Meghan for an entire day in the last fortnight. As far as welcoming Meghan to the UK… I think people will be really happy to see her, and it will also cause a lot of nervousness in the palace. And no, she’s not going to be apologetic or polite. I’m begging these people to get their psychological degradation fantasies out of the British tabloids.
