Sweet panorama is the latest single from Emma Moscatowith a strong eye for irony and inspiration in the dynamism of history and falling in love, playing with the clichés of luxury, glamor and modern relationships.
Among yachts on the Riviera, champagne and “green eyes like dollars”, Sweet panorama offers a vintage pop sound that looks back to the Eighties which told about music in a way “that fascinates me a lot”, as he told us Emma Moscato.
Emma, you’re back with Sweet panorama . How was this song born and why did you choose lazy as the first single?
It was born between January and February, when my team and I locked ourselves in the studio to understand what artistic direction I wanted to take. I felt the need to come back with something that was positive, light and carefree. As soon as I listened Sweet panorama I immediately understood that it would be the right single for my comeback. It perfectly contains the message I wanted to give: it is a song that talks about seduction and fantasy, with a lot of irony. It’s different from my other songs, come on Everything I havethe era was very autobiographic and told a very intimate part of me.
In this new project you seem to show a different face also from a musical point of view
Yes, I think it’s a natural evolution. In my career I have always loved experimenting. I started with sounds close to reggaeton, then I moved on to pop, then to dance. After this break he felt the need to rediscover pop, but with a different, more refined look. I was inspired by the Eighties, by extraordinary artists like MadonnaFleetwood Mac and Cyndi Lauper. They were the starting point of this new sound.
Is this music you already listened to or did you recently discover it for the song?
I rediscovered it just in the last few months. I started listening to these artists for inspiration and I fell in love with them. They have a way of describing music that fascinates me a lot.
Despite the vintage inspiration, the song still maintains a very modern identity.
It was just what you get. The 80s were our source of inspiration, but we worked until the sound was absolutely contemporary. Don’t waste your time on opera nostalgia, make sure you energize and reinterpret your production.
The song has a very cinematic feel. Is it a desired sensation? And will there be a video clip?
Yes, because in my head this song has always been like a movie. I can already imagine the scenes, the characters and the evolution of the story told in the text. To create the real content of a video clip it is necessary to make use of images and thus form part of the image that accompanies it.
How fans reacted to Sweet panorama?
They were surprised by the change, both in musical genre and image. They also perceived the seriousness with which I am tackling this new artistic path and I am very grateful for their support.
Will you take the song on tour this summer?
Yes. I am facing various dates in Italy and Malta and natural Sweet panorama it is in the center of the ladder. I want to introduce this new music to as many people as possible.
Has motherhood changed the way you experience music?
Very, very much. It makes you smile to say it, but since my daughter was born I’ve mostly listened to lullabies! Jokes aside, I feel grown up. The music I listened to before today seems more adolescent to me, while now I find myself appreciating more mature sounds, like those of the Eighties, while maintaining a modern sound.
Is he an artist who knows how to collaborate?
In Italy I would really like to work with Cioffi. I find him really very good.
Looking back, how important was the experience to Friends for your growth?
It was fundamental. I can honestly say that I wouldn’t be here without it Friends. My opinion is that if there is an opportunity for a farm to be part of the audience and if there is a fan base, my audience will be happy with my concerts. But the personal level was also important: I grew up a lot and I have really beautiful memories of that period.
Hi again contact with Maria De Filippi?
Unfortunately not. When I was in the program I was still learning Italian and this made it difficult to communicate. Only towards the end of the course was I really able to have more fluid conversations. We haven’t maintained contact since then, but he remains a person I respect very much.
Eurovision is a complicated moment in your career. How do you look at it today?
At the time I experienced it very badly, especially due to the reactions I received in Malta after failing to qualify for the final. I took it personally, even if it wasn’t just the lady. For months I struggled to even leave the house. In Italy, however, I felt welcomed and supported. Today I would do that experience again, but with a different awareness: I am more mature and would live it much more lightly. There remains a great opportunity that opened its doors to an international audience for me.
Sweet panorama anticipate and plan ahead?
Yes, it’s the first single from my new album. I can’t reveal the release data yet, but it should arrive next year. It will be a project consistent with this new musical identity, inspired by the Eighties but with an absolutely contemporary sound.
Let’s close with a curiosity: how do you keep yourself so fit?
I have always been very sporty: I went to the gym, skied, played tennis and padel. Today, however, with a little girl I have very little time for alarms. On the other hand, correct yourself after her and holding her in your arms all day is already a great workout!
