Liam was a judge on the talent series, which aimed to discover and mentor the latest boy band or girl band. In a twist, the contestants blindly chose band members without seeing them.
Building the Band was reportedly canceled by Netflix after one season
The show aired in July 2025, featuring Liam and fellow judges Kelly Rowland And Nicole Scherzinger. Since Liam filmed Building the Band just months before his untimely death, Netflix asked Liam’s family for their approval before the series aired. And fittingly enough, the season was dedicated to Liam.
Tragically, the singer died in Buenos Aires, Argentina. He fell from a third-floor balcony. Then there was an investigation into his death.
According to The sunBuilding the Band has been canceled by Netflix. “While there are currently no plans for a second season of Building The Band, the bosses at Netflix are very proud of what they have achieved,” the source said. “That’s because the show led to the creation of four great groups, and they’ve all since signed record deals.”
The insider continued: “The finalist groups – 3quency, SZN4, Soulidified and Midnight Til Morning – have all released original music, toured internationally and attract hundreds of thousands of listeners every month. And Midnight Til Morning will be performing at BST Hyde Park at the end of this month,” the source added.
And the winning group, 3Quency, shared their favorite memories of Liam. “(He gave) us all the tips, all the things he learned and his experience coming out of a show where he built a bond and how, you know, it’s similar to what we’re about to experience,” Brianna Mazzola explained. “It was really special for us to experience learn that from himbecause it was a shared experience.”
Building the bond is streaming on Netflix.
